The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — New Hampshire is getting nearly $1.4 million in federal funding to protect and strengthen coastal communities.

The Nature Conservancy is getting about $1 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to implement and monitor projects to protect coastal communities from flooding. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is getting $370,000 to remove two damns on the Bellamy River to allow fish to swim upstream to spawning habitats and restore 21 acres of floodplain wetlands.

The grants were announced by Democratic Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan.
