Golfer wins State Am championship round for second time

KEENE—Mike Martell, 24, of New Ipswich won the 114th State Am golf tournament this weekend in Keene.

The tournament matches the state's best amateur golfers in a week-long battle for the top spot. Martell, who plays out of the Nashua Country Club, has won twice.

According to the Keene Sentinel, he beat #1-ranked Matt Paradis during the final round Saturday, making 10 birdies and an eagle and going one 20-hole stretch with just one bogey.

“I felt like I hit the ball well all week,” Martel said. “I never had a round where I thought I hit it bad at all. All aspects of my game have improved. It came with a lot of hard work," he told the newspaper.
